Its alright, just my fingers innit! That statement came from Jake Ricketts, after falling far and fast to the concrete, breaking two fingers and going back to nail the trick and the AM first place. It pretty much sums up the badassery that rollerblading in general and the UK scene in particular is so proud of, and it was on full display at Laced weekend.
As every year, Be-Mag will be part of the Winterclash tradeshow representing the brand and selling our goods. Read below what we're preparing for you and why you shouldn't miss stopping by our booth!
Back in December, our Aussie correspondents Rob Ham and Simon Kelly hosted the national Australian Rollerblading Open in Canberra. While the northern hemisphere was freezing in the middle of winter, our southern counterparts were melting in the heat with record high temperatures paired with some super technical and intense skating. Check out what went down.
In December 2012 the annual Strive Apart was held again in Leipzig, Germany. The well-run local indoor skatepark called "Heizhaus" turned out to be a good host again on this very Tuesday evening. Rollerbladers mainly from eastern Germany gathered in Leipzig to have a nice get-together and a fine skate session with a little bit of competition elements to it.
After the madness of the Shred Cologne contest just two months earlier, the final German Masterships session of the year had a lot to live up to. The frozen streets and horrible weather werent putting anybody off, with bladers from almost all of Europe showing up to destroy the I-Punkt Skateland for the 2000 prize money. German competitors were also battling for the title of German Champion for 2012 and the standard was predictably furious.
I had seen touristbladers before of course. Most of the time you would run into touristbladers at the local skatespots, and every once in a while you could spot a small flock of touristbladers in the wild. But nothing could have prepared me for the amount of touristbladers I witnessed the days leading up to one of the most anticipated real street events ever. Everywhere I went I encountered Mindgame hoodies, $enate backpacks, Medium sweaters and more of the like. Us Damsko Kids had been waiting for this weekend ever since it had become clear that the two grandfathers of real street contests would be working together on what was to become one of the most epic rollerblading weekends ever witnessed by man. This day had finally arrived. With it an unbelievable number of rollerbladers of all ages and nationality. Words fail to describe the awesomeness experienced by yours truly. Therefore I will not even attempt to bore you with more of my insane ramblings, but will let the pictures speak for themselves.
The I-Punkt Skateland in Hamburg will once again host the infamous X-Mas Jam this year. In an effort to raise awareness for the event and to get everyone juiced for December 15th the Hamburg locals teamed up to get clips for a promo edit at their first "Bladers Only" session of the year. This is what they got.
WRS Uploaded 2012 is in full effect. Over the next three weeks top ranked skaters from the WRS and recognized bladers from all over will show off their skills in 60-second edits. A fan favorite will be crowned and six judges will pick the final winner. We let co-organizer Daniel Kinney shed some light on this fresh video-contest.
Roving Be-mag correspondent and blade photographer Megan Petersen attended this year's AIL Championships at the skate paradise otherwise known as Woodward West in Tehachapi, California and came back to us with this short recap report.
The first ever Shred Cologne went down last weekend and it became clear for everyone in attendance that this was just the beginning. Be-Mag videographer Peter Bender was on site to bring you the official Be-Mag edit for Shred Cologne 2012! Enjoy!
Ivan Narez, Erik Stokley, and I arrived at Jon and Viola Julios loft around 4:30 Thursday morning. Ivan slept most of the way in pure exhaustion from finalizing the details on getting copies of the Shred Til Youre Dead II book, DVD, and Blu Ray that were releasing the next day. By that time, I had been awake nearly 24 hours and about five of those were driving from Walnut Creek to Santa Ana.
On October 20th the biggest German blade event 2012 will take place in Cologne. Well-known bladers from all over Europe will rock the city. We met the main organizer Marco Sichau to find out where the idea for this event came from and what will make this event new or special.
Ive been wanting to skate New York City for 16 years.Since the Brooklyn Banks were closed for construction, there was only one thing I was after: skitching anything that moved during rush hour.
There was total chaos in Amsterdam when the first 'GET OUT THE WAY' edition went loose. Eighteen teams with thirty-six skaters raced on their bikes from spot to spot throughout the whole city. At each spot they had to finish a certain trick to get as many points as possible. We made an edit from the footage that the competitors sent us to give you a little impression of what went down on the 25th of August.
On August 17th, 2012 competitors and friends began to arrive in our fair city. Solid street clips were acquired. The evening overtook us and we hunkered down to feast and imbibe libations.
Stay In-Line Comp - This is our first event put together under the flag of S.I.L. Productions. A brand that I created three years ago as a way for people to see rollerblading through our eyes and through our friends. We hope to continue to have numerous events through out the year to bring the rolling community together and hopefully spark a fire in the younger generation to continue taking our sport to the level it should be.
Baltic Games the fifth edition of the biggest extreme sports festival in Poland. It is a huge venture with a gigantic skatepark on an international level, plenty of invited guests, and bunch of different attractions for visitors. At the same time it is another great opportunity to show blading to outsiders in a good light. What can be said about the BG 2012?
On September 22nd bladers from around the globe will meet up in New York for the NYC Street Invitational. We checked in with organizer Billy O'Neill to find out what he's got in store for the second edition of the real street contest.
