Just like in all sports, there are levels to the game. In our community there are thousands of great skaters. There are also a fair amount of legends throughout the many generations of inline skating. And then, there are icons. Sven Boekhorst falls into that latter category. It might be necessary to place Sven in a class all to himself because there hasn’t been someone so formidable across so many different disciplines that has maintained that level for as long as him.
And it doesn’t look like Sven’s unprecedented run is coming to a close anytime soon; as he is noticeably skating better than ever at the ripe age of forty-one. Which in blade years, puts Sven somewhere in his late 70’s if I am doing my math right. Sven recently teamed up with videographer Niels Groenendijk to create a ground-breaking new project titled “14×41”, which serves up a three course meal of Sven’s diverse skating skills across vert, street and park. And to give back to the sport which has been his passion for the last twenty-seven years, Sven is donating ALL of his tips from his new “14×41” video to provide free skate lessons for the youth from the capable skate instructors at Area 51 . Besides the donations made by you, the chefs of “14X41” will additionally donate 41 Rollerblade inline skates to Area 51 Skatepark for kids to use for free! That is where you come in!
