Live Stream: Still unknown tour - 07/07/12

3 skaters, all well up in their age, considering the average age of skaters, decided go on a one last skate journey while their bodies still allowed them to. Those skaters are us: Michael Nissen, Dan Richter Jørgensen, and Anders Toxboe. We’re all pretty much unknown throughout the skate scene and damn proud of it…

Visiting Be-mag heads in Vienna - Friday, July 20, 2007 at 02:15 - By toxboe

The last two days of our tour went with visiting Mike, Stuff, and Forsti (and Lucia) in Vienna. If you have met them you will know that these people are some of the nicest people on earth.
No pictures this time – just a word up to the be-mag heads for a great time.

You definitely raised the bar when it comes to hospitality and having a good time. You guys are the best.

Too hot to skate - Friday, July 20, 2007 at 02:08 - By toxboe

The second day of our Ignition visit, it was just as hot as the day before. 37 degrees celcius in the shadow!

For the first time in… well… ever… we got up at 8 am go skate the ignition skatepark – otherwise it would just be too hot to skate that sauna. The rest of the day was spent at the nearby Thumsee – the infamous Ignition lake. At night we went to Salzburg to drink some beers in company with Salzburg locals.

Not too much to say except that we had a great time.

Ignition: Thank you so much for all your hospitality. You guys rock!

The ignition experience - Monday, July 16, 2007 at 18:30 - By toxboe

We are now reporting from Ignition Valley in Bad Reichenhall – a city with mostly old people, but not too long ago invaded by some of the most enthusiastic inline skaters in the world. The only thing to do in the city is to skate the newly build (and very very nice) Ignition skatepark, shop Ignition gear, or hang out with the elderly in the local kurbad. We chose the first two.

For the first time in a quite some years, we skated an inline park. (And f&#k the Ignition locals – Leo and Jojo – skate it well). It was a weird feeling being in a park, where you actually want to skate every single obstacle in there. The park is very well thought out and a series of line opportunities yell at you wherever you are in the park.

Last night, we enjoyed the very nice company of Jojo, Leo, Sebastian, Gagi, Frieda, and Alex (Schneieder) at a BBQ, where the firemaster (Gagi) went pyro and build a bonfire in the grill.

Life is so chill here! Business must and will get done – but there is no rush. The laid-back atmosphere makes you feel at home.

So we’re truly enjoying the last part of our tour. Dan and I woke up at 9, had a nice morning session in the indoor skatepark (which, is next door to the shop itself), went to a nearby lake to cool off from the 48 degree heat in the sun, went home, and are now about to have some lunch. The heatwave won’t allow us to skate during the day, so we’ll wait until 8 or 9 for that.

Cheers!

Skate day in Paris - Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 18:19 - By toxboe

One of the most legendary skatespots in the world is the Bercy ledges in Paris. Since the first IMYTA in Paris, this spot has stood out as on of the more hardcore ones in the skate world. One that defined a skater. At least, that was what I thought back then. Anyway… ever since then, it had been a dream to be able to skate these ledges one day – and to say that you had skated them.
So the Bercy ledges in Paris was one of the “must-skate” spots of the tour. This is why we went there first thing.
Apparently, some Dutch skaters and a out-of-town French skater had the same idea. So we ended up skating with these great people for the rest of the day – who fortunately enough knew more spots in Paris than we did.
All in all, it was a super skate day. I personally haven’t skated that much since I was a kid, and never that hard. Normally, I will never do acid drops – but once you’re at Bercy, you just got to pull yourself together.

Check out the pictures from the day.

Unfortunately, Michael’s old grandmom died while on tour, why he had to take the train home from Paris to attend the funeral. Dan and I continued to German (I’m sorry – Bavarian) Bad Reichenhall near the Austrian border.

Rain rain and rain - Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 21:40 - By toxboe

Today was supposed to be our first skate day in Paris. The rain unfortunately caught up on our trail since we left Amsterdam, so we went on the standard sightseeing tour… on foot. Damn, Paris is big. Damn, Paris is really really big!

On the way, we passed the local inline skateshop: Nomades, where Michael bought a new pair of Xjados as his old ones broke back in Amsterdam. My guess would be more beer for us tonight and a great skate day tomorrow at Bercy.

You’re welcome to join us!

Spots are hard to find in Amsterdam - beers are not - Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 19:54 - By toxboe

Today was our big day in Amsterdam. Of course the locals had gone to the Rotterdam skatepark because of the bad weatherforecast. Bad weather forecasts however does not scare the Vikings from the north. So we headed out to skate the streets of Amsterdam on our own.

We spent the first half of the day looking for spots in the center of Amsterdam… bad idea. We did however experience several kilometers of brickstones, got passively high from all the coffee shops, got munchies and ate pizza, but didn’t find skatespots.

At the end of the day we finally found a nice spot with bercy-like ledges. After a session, a very nice Amsterdam local skater came up to us and told us about some spots. We got the idea that we should probably take the tram instead of skating between spots.

So we went to the IMYTA spot at WTC and skated there for a while… and then the beer craving could not be held back anymore…

All in all we found out that Amsterdam is for drinking beers (and smoking your preferred flavor) – and not so much skating. At least not for us.

So cheers – see you at the bars tonight… we’re already half there.

A day in Hamburg - Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 12:02 - By toxboe

We arrived in Hamburg Saturday afternoon and immediately headed for the i-punkt skatepark. Unfortunately for us, the Hamburg locals were either at the ISPO trade show or at the Roskilde festival (in our own home country). So we had a quick session ourselves. As the rainy weather did not cooperate with our eagerness to go street skate, we went to the hostel to chill afterwards.

We started early the next day just skating random spots that we passed along as we skated through the city. Every spot we saw that could possibly be skated was skated.

In some sort of a miracle moment, we we lucky to spot the banana ledge of our dreams. The only problem was that it was behind a fence – greased up in brown soap, which I didn’t really notice until I was half-way up the fence. Yummy!
Anyway – my to fellow travelers were smart enough to walk 5 meters to the left and jump the fence without the complimentary washing.
The spot behind the fence was apparently a well known spot for locals, as the banana ledges we all waxed up and ready to be skated. We couldn’t wipe the smiley grins off our faces for quite a while. It was almost too good to be true – that had found this perfect spot in the middle of nowhere hidden behind fences.

Monday, we left for Amsterdam, where we’re sitting in a hostel right now waiting for the rain to dry up so we can go skate again.
