    Scene Report: Dakar, Africa

    As I sit here in Istanbul Airport, ever alert for the need to dash to the bathroom to avoid a calamity, I think about the events that led me here. Over a year ago a friend called me and told me that there was a group of skaters coming from Dakar to do a show in 'Parc de la Ciutadella' as part of a Dakar/Barcelona collaboration of culture. There was a meet the day before, and the skaters asked if I would join them. I arrived at this palace of a house in the centre of Barcelona, and found no-one related to the event. I was underdressed and considering leaving, feeling rather out of place. I decided to wait it out and how glad I am that I did.

    Many skaters have came and gone throughout the short history of our sport. Many talented people who have impacted blading immensely have came and went within a few short years, no longer to be seen again. Only a handful have lasted the test of time and continue to progress skating to insane levels today. Our newest pro rider for Create Originals is one of the most iconic pro's that our industry has ever seen. Nobody has been skating as hard and as raw for as long as he has. He has an unmatchable track record throughout the years complete with legendary sections, interviews and contest placings.     Today we announce the winner of the SSM Marc Moreno Pro Skates sponsored by Grindhouse. Each participant had to come up with a good story why they should win the skates. It was a hard choice: The lucky owner of these brand new SSM babies is Florian Lebon from Boissy-le-Châtel, near Paris, in France. Congratulations, Florian! Bring your blades, something to grill, and come session to celebrate the year in blading. Free skating, food and friends, join the fun and come hang out.
