Whether 2015 was an awesome or a terrible year is up for debate. If you are more of the “glass half empty” type, then it is undeniable that the state of blading truly is worrying. With social networks slowly killing legit media sources, Magma & [MAG] both quitting this year, iconic companies like SSM gone, more shops closing down, without any money to actually pay our best pros and print magazines becoming rarer and rarer, one has to admit things could be better.
On the other hand, 2015 has brought in the most fresh new faces to blading we have seen in a long time. The steadily rising level of skating is nothing short of incredible, and more diverse than ever before. Dedicated brands are still pushing and new, innovative products like the Aeon skate and CRS frame have hit the market this year. Finally, many contests, festivals & skate camps are putting in the work to raise blade awareness and get new kids on skates… Glass half full.
Chances are it will take quite a few beers to actually get to know Nick Lomax. Arguably one of the hardest working people in the industry, in 2015 the Kizer and Undercover pro single-handedly established USD‘s new boot as the product of the year, traveled to more places, won more comps and filmed more edits than pretty much anyone… Ever! After he won himself One magazine‘s SOTY award, Nick is currently traveling in Asia, closing up the year filming for yet another banger edit, and probably drinking a few Chang’s in the process: cheers everyone!

Any specific moment or experience that stood out?
Myself, Dano and Ricky all partying on the beach in BCN, some looser threw a beer glass onto the sand from the club.. As we had liners on, I stood on glass first, then Ricky got a cut on his wrist that made him pass out… Then Dano trying to help Ricky, stood on glass too. Then we all walked home like zombies with blood everywere. Very weird but very funny.
What was your worst day in 2015 and why?
The last day of Roskilde, seeing everybody leaving and knowing there is no more party nights and madness haha!
Is there such thing as a best day in 2015?
Best day would be every day I’m out filming and chilling with all my homies. For me there is nothing better than the days in the mountains getting clips and laughing our heads off. A gang of bladers from all over the world with beers and cameras!

Story? Probably almost loosing my pinky in Istanbul. Having to drive around to every hospital in Istanbul to find a surgeon to sew it back together… If it wasn’t for my homies Alphan, Sinan, and Caner for sure I would have lost it. 4 hours of open surgery and a 5,000 euro bill (that we didn’t pay) and I was all good. Thanks guys I owe you!

What’s planned for 2016 so far?
Move away from my flat in Barcelona and travel more, it’s been the best two years of my skating life… But it sucks to be paying so much rent and never being there. So lots more contests and travels for 2016! And sleeping on your sofa’s!
