MY 2019 | JORDAN BAEZ

INTERVIEW BY EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: KEVIN LITTLE @KEVINMLITTLE

2019 was an eventful year for many within the inline skating community. There has been a noticeable feeling of a tide turning as far as acceptance within the general population and a resurgence of both new participants and old friends dusting off their boots and getting back to where they left off. Numerous events and contests around the world brought skaters from all walks of life together to share in our common love and strengthened our existing relationships and also built new friendships along the way. One of the individuals that was making waves in 2019 was NYC legend Jordan Baez of Ghetto Community From donating skates to the inner-city youth of New York City and abroad; to traveling the country with his friends, to spending time with his beautiful family, Jordan made it a point to prioritize the things that are most important to him. I had a chance to speak with Jordan about his eventful year and what his plans are for 2020.

Hey Jordan, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to speak with us. To begin, where did you start 2019?

2019 was a hectic year for me. I put 80% of my focus into blading and my company. The highlight was the outcome of it, meeting new people, and seeing how much support I actually have across America.

Where are you ending 2019?

I just ended 2019 with my last Ghetto Community winter line. Was able to get amazing product shots by Sam DeAngelis, who’s now a part of the Ghetto Community family.

Favorite memories from 2019:

Being able to take my son to Woodward and have him experience where I wanted to be at his age. Going to “Charm City Take Over” was fun, there was a great vibe in Baltimore! That was until the cops pulled up in our spot for shooting BB guns. My other favorite memory was when me and CBoogie took a stroll Saturday night at Woodward at WYII event and there was a huge crowd of people, in it was a naked dude on blades! This guy was doing a 360 naked on a ramp while people threw stuff at him. Shit was hilarious! Too many great memories to count!

Spots traveled to in 2019:

Cali, Baltimore, Connecticut, Philly, and Woodward (East). I can’t really remember it all.

Video picks you watched over and over in 2019:

Night & Weekends, It’s All Good documentary, No Limits, Theories & Black Market. I also like to watch my own “What’s Duh Vibez” episodes to see where I can improve on fixing stuff. I watch way too much old shit anyways. I love to watch new things but I love to know my history more then anything!
