MY 2019 | JP PRIMIANO

In piecing together JP Primiano’s 2019, I realized what a busy year it had been for him traveling across the US, Europe, and Asia. The number of edits amassed in each place visited (including his most recent ‘Blading Cup 2019: We Are Generations’ edit) was astounding. In a way, this feature serves as a retrospective of a blade media creator. If you had to quantify someone’s contributions to rollerblading culture, that is one way to do so – where did you go and how did you document it. Another approach is to look at the scope of JP’s work and assess the quality — bar none. Filmed with intention, well cut, color graded, scored perfectly. What more could we ask for?

Now that we’re in 2020, it’s time to reset the counter and see what JP has in store for us this year.

Where did you start 2019:

I started my 2019 in California shooting a few bits with Julio as well as E.Rod’s Forever Premiere / Box Jam.

Where are you ending 2019:

I’ve ended my 2019 in North Carolina filming Montre’s Queen City Kings Contest at Oso Skatepark.

Favorite memories from 2019:

Any memory that involves skating is a favorite: From showing up to events and either catching up with everyone or meeting new people to traveling to work on docu-style pieces, or just kicking it here at home in NYC. This has been a very productive and fun year; everyone has been amazing along the way.

Playlist that sums up 2019:

Off the top of my head here are the first 5 songs that come to mind

NWA – Express Yourself
A Tribe Called Quest – Vibes and Stuff
Beastie Boys – So Whatcha Want
Action Bronson – Easy Rider
Guns N’ Roses – Sweet Child O’ Mine

Photo of you or by you that sums up 2019:

• Being smack in the middle of all the action at the BPSO2019.

• Filming with Soichiro [Kanashima] in Japan. Met some amazing people on this trip.

• There’s nothing like being there in person no matter how hard you try to recreate that energy into an edit.

• Balance is everything.

Goals accomplished in 2019:

Making the trip to Japan to work on a piece with Soichiro [Kanashima]. Wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pull that one off but it all worked out so nicely.

Something in 2019 you wish you had done:

TONS! Timing is always an issue. I wish I could have tagged along in Spain to get behind the scenes footage of Ellos. There are a few comps I would have loved to cover. And being able to crank out these edits much sooner. It’s always a fight when it comes to time.

Something that made you grow in 2019:

Becoming a father.

Something that kept you going throughout 2019:

The culture. The people. Seeing how much everyone can do when we all come together with the little resources we have.

What are you looking forward to in 2020:

Finishing up certain projects that have been in the works for a while. I definitely want to focus more on individual pieces, whether it’s docu-style or a full on skate edit, and I do have a “hit list” of who I’d like to work with but we’ll see…timing is everything. Cheers!
