Street Battle Seattle 08 is just around the corner! The date for Seattle’s premiere street skating event will be held on August 16th 2008. This is the 8th year of the event and still just as powerful as it has been in the past! For those of you who don’t know much about the event I can tell you it always delivers! If you don’t believe me just ask some of the past contestants and spectators such as…Andy Kruse, Dustin Halleran, Randy Spizer, Cameron Card, Shain Lapointe, Kawika Jarman, Demetrious George, Rachard Johnson, Matt Andrews, Brian Aragon, Rob Inks, Bobby Tatieshi, Charlie Ashby, Louie Zamora, Randy Juarez, Ross Kuhn, Jake Dotson and last years guest Aaron Fienberg. Most of those names represent skating at its best; past, present, and future!
The event also tends to draw a pretty hefty crowed. Best turn out was in the hundreds! I think close to 20 police showed up to break up! We still prevailed! I love skating and the whole reason I continue to host this event year after year is for the skaters. It brings together Seattle Skaters and beyond for a day of fun in the Sun for a chance to hang out with some of the best and a chance to win some money, prizes, and the respect! Skaters of all ages look forward the event each year and it’s a staple in the Seattle Scene. When its summer in Seattle in a skaters mind that means SBS! I don’t have the time I used to in the past to build the best most powerful event so I’m reaching out to my friends, my sponsors, and whomever might receive this…I want your support! We as a skating community needs you! I myself will be putting up a minimum of $500 towards the prize pot. I’m hoping that with my own contribution sponsors will jump on the band wagon and we can really have worthy cash prize or at least plenty of prizes to hand out. I would like to buy a laptop for first place and also have cash and other skate swag to hand out. These days contests never really have the proper backing they need to succeed. But its not the contests I’m worried about it’s the skaters who put there body’s on the line for sometimes almost nothing! I’ve never asked for anything in particular all I ever ask for all we “skaters” ask for is your support. It may be a little, it may be allot, what means the most is your support in general. Now, the way the contest works is easy. Who is the best overall skater? Skating 3-4 spots. Skaters are judged for whatever they do and how they do it. You will skate Ledges, Rails, Gaps and whatever else thrown at you. Let’s say you’re not so great at a particular thing and do really well at another? It then cancels out the portion you weren’t so great at. Meaning the chance of a win is still an option. So like I said THE BEST SKATER OVERALL! This gives any contestant a chance to win. That right there should say enough. Depending on how many contestants there are there may be eliminations with buy back!
