DVD Review: Some Mothers Sons - 08/01/04
As far as I know ‘Some Mothers Sons’ is the first DVD Erik Bill’s produced. This is a DVD that comes straight out of Idaho and only local skaters have profiles. The only pro on this DVD is Erik Bailey. All the other names were totally new to me. But this only makes it more interesting because I’m always juiced to see new styles new skate spots. If you buy the team video of some major company you know exactly what you will get. You know their team riders; you know their skating style and probably even most of the spots. Here I knew nothing about anyone except of Bailey and that’s good!

The skating on this DVD is really decent. Most of the tricks are hard and executed nicely. If you take intro consideration that these guys are no professionals the level of skating is pretty dope. It’s amazing to see how much rollerblading has progressed. Nowadays you are able to make a good and entertaining DVD without any professional skaters (leaving away Bailey). The first thing that really stood out is the Phil Davidson profile. You can see how hard this kid is working on his tricks. Sometimes they look a bit insecure but he for sure has got some potential. The best thing about this section is the song they chose. It is probably the best and funniest song on the whole DVD!
Adam Robert looks like he no longer belongs to the young guns. He does hard, fast tricks and is able to skate nice lines. It’s good to see skaters over twenty sticking with what they love to do! Another guy how is really outstanding is Nick Whitmore. Nick is not the world’s best skater but he is one of the guys that are really dope to watch. The expression on his face while he is skating and his style show how much he’s enjoying himself.

Nicolas Swan has got a very nice and clean style. Every trick is locked perfectly well and looks so effortless. Nicolas is able to really control the wheels under his feet. What I would like to know is if he is always landing his shit this perfect or if he tried everything hundreds of times!? Either way this is a great section! The next person I want to tell you about is Erik Bill. He has got some serious skills. Not only are his tricks good but also his spot selection is great. He skates everything that comes into his way and loves to build ramps. His section is edited to a fast rock song and is ended with a huge 540 that would bee good enough for any professional DVD!
The last section is Erik Bailey’s profile. I don’t really want to tell you too much about it. The only thing I want to let you know is that this section could also have been his Valo or Heat section. Erik did not put less effort into filming his section because he didn’t get any money for it. Thumbs up for another sick Bailey section!
 Erik Bill - Safety 180
The only weak point is that there are not many highlights during the first few sections of this DVD. Don’t get me wrong… the skating and everything is good but you rarely get to see a real banger. But the DVD perfectly well manages to make you juiced to go out and try some of the tricks yourself. If you buy this DVD you get a nice overview about the skating scene in Idaho. If you are not only interested in seeing Broskow or Haffey it’s definitely a good choice to buy ‘Some Mothers Sons’!
